Fast-food-menu.svg

American fast food is international. McDonalds, for example, have over 31.000 restaurants in more than 121 countries.

But is American fast food really American?

Coca Cola takes its name from the coca leaf from South America. But the secret recipe doesn't contain coca extract any more. Peru has its own version of the popular American drink: it's called Inka Cola!

Milkshakes and ice-cream flavors such as chocolate, vanilla and banana come from Latin America. The English word "chocolate" comes from a Mexican Indian word xocolatl. Vanilla comes from Spanish voinilla.

The names "hamburger and "Frankforter" come from the names of German cities, Hamburg and Frankfort. Sauerkraut, also German, accompanies a typical American hot dog.

French fries are fried potatoes. Potatoes come from South America. Potato in English comes from "patata" in Spanish.

Mayonnaise comes originally from Mahon in Menorca.

Piaza is Italian.

The words "cookie" and "waffle" come from Dutch.

Mexican American Or TexMex fast food is very popular in the U.S. It includes typical Mexican food such as tacos and enchiladas.

Fries

Cubbies-Freedom Fries.jpg

One of the most famous vegetable is potato which originally came from South America. The English|British (GB) call fried pieces of them just CHIPS, whereas Americans (US) call them French (F) fries. During the last Iraq war American patriots were angry about the French politicians and wanted to rename them as Freedom Fries but the name didn’t stuck because on one hand the Statue of Liberty itself is a present from France (F). On the other hand it’s really funny because fries actually don’t come from France (F) but from Belgium (B).
