The French-Indian War started in 1754 and ended in 1763.
The British wanted to expand their territory to the west but at the same time the French wanted to expand their territory to the south. That created the conflict.
The French had a much smaller army so they persuaded the Indians to help them. After seven years of war, the British won and gained a lot of territory whereas the French were forced to give up all of their North American territory.
As a result, King George III. had to pay a huge amount of money. So he raised taxes on the American colonies. Of course, they were angry which eventually led to the wish for independence.
